Waiting to be X-rayed
Description
Several wounded patients waiting in an ante-room to be X-rayed. Through the doorway a patient is seen being positioned under the X-ray machine by two doctors. Rupert Bunny worked as an orderly in the American Hospital in Neuilly, France, where the wounded had been brought by ambulance to Paris from the front line. Bunny's role was to carry the patients to the operating theatres. He was thus able to witness the tragedy of the wounded. 'The bandage hall', Red Cross collection, Melbourne, was also painted on this theme.
