Signing Peace Treaty at Acre, and entry into Beirut
Description
The Armistice was signed on 12 July, 1941 at Acre by General Sir Henry Maitland Wilson KCB, DSO, for the Allies and General Verdilhac for the Vichy French. On 15 July 1941 the 2/16 Australian Infantry Battalion and 6 Australian Division Cavalry Regiment made a ceremonial entry into Beruit and the next day Allied leaders including General Wilson, General Catroux, Major General J D Lavarack CB, CMG, DSO and Major General A S Allen CB, CBE, DSO, VD, also made ceremonial entry into the city.
