Americans prepare to land at Wakde Island
Description
An American convoy of landing of craft left Aitape, New Guinea, escorted by Australian and American warships for a landing on Wakde. This was accomplised by two separate operations; first a landing on the mainland in the Arara area, then on 18 May 1944 a landing on Wakde Island itself. This film shows the landing at Arara area by the 163rd Regimental Combat Team of the 41st US Division. The 167 Field Artillery Battalion, 218 Field Artillery Battalion and Cannon Company 163 Infantry bombard Wakde Island.
