Description

Sattelberg road river crossing. Bulldozers make a ford and tow any jeeps that get stuck. Engineers work on foundations of bridge. Pontoon crossing. Wounded coming back by jeep. Jeeps bringing up food and ammunition. Tank workshop which is mobile on trucks and can move any where at a moments notice. Repairs, radios, engines tracks etc. tanks load on to barges. Barges move along coast running gauntlet with Japanese bombers. Matilda tanks arrive and move up. Dawn shots. Tanks going into action. Tanks and infantry in action with support from 2 inch and 3 inch mortars. Digger with bullet wound carried out by stretcher bearers. Wounds attended to. Another chap wounded by Japanese grenade has face examined for splinters. Wounded being carried out. Platoon commanders Lieutenant (Lieut) Morphett and Lieut Gregory with walkie-talkie set direct the tanks. Major Hordern with radio from command tank. Conference Lieut-Colonel Ainsley and Major Hordern. Burial of Brigadier Shirley Thomas William Goodwin DSO killed in a Japanese air raid. Capture of Sattelberg. YMCA set up within an hour of capture and hand out cigarettes, PK's etc. Mr Val Bevis YMCA representative. Shot of SX7964 Sgt Tom C. Derrick DCM 2/24 Battalion telling the press how he knocked out a machine gun that was holding up the advance. Sgt. Derrick DCM is interviewed by Ian Morrision of the London Times and Alan Hulls of the Sydney Telegraph.
