31/51 Australian Infantry Battalion landing at Sipaai, North Bougainville
Description
This film covers the move of the unit from Torokina to a new forward base in the north-west coast at Sipaai, near the mouth of the Kiakara River. The troops were moved in three barges escorted by the 13th Australian Small Ships Company, AV1361 "Poolta", which also carried one hundre tons of stores and one hundred and fifty personnel. Barges appearing in the film were manned by 42nd Australian Land Craft Company. From this base, the unit commenced operations against Japanese forces in the area.
