Bombardment of Sohana Island
Description
Sohana Island, controlled by the Japanese, commanded a strategic position at the entrance to Buka Passage which separates Bonis Peninsula from Buka Island. Heavy Japanese anti aircraft guns prevented allied bomber aircraft attacking the Bonis Peninsula. Film shows barrage provided by 141 Australian Heavy Anti Aircraft Battery (Mobile) from Soraken Peninsula some nine miles away, to enable bombers to fly in at trm thousand ft and destroy the Japanese guns.
