Meeting of Australian and Japanese envoys at Balikpapan
Description
On 3 September 1945, an Australian envoy, NGX62 Captain Francis Adelbert Jacobsen, accompanied by a platoon from D Company, the 2/1st Australian Pioneer Battalion, met a Japanese envoy, Rear Admiral Nomeja and party at Japanese HQ on the upper reaches of the Samoi River, north of Balikpapan, to discuss the Surrender of all Japanese troops in the area.
