2/4 Armoured Regiment take over Japanese tanks
Description
On 28 September 1945, NX35124 Major John Harrold Mackay, Commander B Squadron, 2/4 Australian Armoured Regiment, officially took command of eighty Japanese tanks which had been placed by the Japanese, after the surrender, at Kokopo, scene of the first Australian action in the First World War. These tanks were the first heavy armour to be handed over in this area.
