Presentation of medals to Papuan Infantry Battalion
At a parade held at HQ Papuan Infantry Battalion (PIB), 36 (VX38969) Major General William Bridgeford CB CBE MC, General Officer Commanding 3 Australian Division, presented a Distinguished Conduct Medal and three Military Medals to four PIB NCOs. Also on 29 November 1945, Major General W Bridgeford present Loyal Service Medallions to some natives at the Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit Compound, Torokina. Each native who received this medal had performed some meritorious or valiant deed in the face of the enemy. Major General Bridgeford presenting the DCM to Sergeant (Sgt) John Ehaua; MM to Warrant Officer II Kari; Sgt Gabriel Ehaua; Corporal Biri. Major J Reed, District Officer, ANGAU, translating the citation into Pidgin English for the native onlookers.
