Description
Two days out of Morotai, the Stanford Victory ran into heavy seas and gale force winds. Many troops on board were sick and some had cuts from being thrown about the steel decks. The ship was greeted at Kure Harbour, Japan, by a RAN Marine Band and Naval ratings. An ABC war correspondent interviewed some of the men as they stepped ashore. Also identified: Mr Simpson, ABC war correspondent; NX122689 Lieutenant George Beaton McLeod, 65th Australian Infantry Battalion; NX9566 Signalman Thomas Conway, 23rd Technical Maintenance Unit.
