Japanese film taken in various prison camps for the Red Cross, Geneva

The film begins from the point of view of a camera on board a moving vehicle, part of a motorcade that passes Australian and allied prisoners of war who stand to attention along both sides of the road. Arrives at destination. Scenes to illustrate life and work at the POW camp follow; shots, interspersed with close and mid range shots of faces of the prisoners, as follows : senior officers meeting; A Japanese soldier hits a gong; Scenes of prisoners wearing shorts, exercising in large group beneath palm trees - some panning close up shots. Scenes of prisoners' working parties, digging and moving earth. A steamroller flattens the new road surface. Large work parties of allied prisoners erect buildings by hand. Prisoners in vegetable fields, picking the crop and having a meal break. A tug of war match between teams of allied prisoners. Polite applause from onlooking audience. A duck chasing race. A musical concert. A boxing match. Some slow mid length shots of individuals with Japanese sub titling. Allied prisoners lunching with Japanese military. The infirmary and a patient, with flowers by his bedside, and allowed a cigarette in bed. An ANZAC or memorial day service, commencing with shots of a white cement memorial, inscribed 'Lest We Forget'. Wreaths are set before it. Japanese buglers and allied prisoners at attention. Senior Japanese officer reads from a Japanese inscribed scroll. Allied men salute the memorial. A gate with a sign in English "No entry unless authrorised" opens and reveals a cultivated garden or park where non uniformed men, women and children walk, sit, converse and picnic. Interior - a class of young children, being addressed by a nun. Vegetables being grown and distributed. Women seated in the shade pull leaves from some vegetables. Young men playing football. Young children playing a variety of games. A man dressed as Father Christmas distributes toys to young children and their parents in a crowd. A Christmas themed puppet show. A young girl performs a ballet dance for a crowd of families on a stage in front of the "College of Education / Junior Training Department".
