Ceremonial retreat at Tokyo
Description
A guard from the 5th Ghurka Rifles, assisted by the massed pipe bands of the 1st Punjab Regiment, The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders and the Royal Ghurka Rifles together with the Kumaon Regimental Band, conducted a ceremonial retreat on the Plaza outside the entrance to Hirohito's palace. Major General Cowan, General Officer Commanding Brindiv, took the salute at the march past. Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Robertson, Lt Gen Eichelberger, Mrs McArthur and son were among the many Allied spectators of this event. A recording which includes an explanation and description of the event has been secured for Military History Section and has already been forwarded to Australia by Lieutenant Freeman.
