Parliamentary delegation to Japan DPR/S/5a,5b,5c
The Australian Parliamentary Delegation of seven, comprising four representatives of the Government and three Opposition Members visited Japan during recess to study Australian troop conditions and prospects for development of trade between Australia and Japan. The Delegation sailed from Australia on the 'Duntroon' on 2 July 1948 and remained in the BCOF area from 18 July to 26 August. The delegation included Mr E H Russell (Labor SA), Senator J A Cooke (Labor WA), Senator R J Murray (Labor TAS), Mr L Haylen (Labor, NSW) Delegation Leader, Mr J Francis (Liberal QLD), Mr C W Davidson (Liberal QLD), Colonel R S Ryan (Liberal VIC), Mr F Johnston (Party Officer). Also identified: Commander in Chief BCOF 34 (VX20321, VX80578) Lieutenant General Horace Clement Hugh Robertson CBE DSO; Driver R J Douglas of Concord, NSW.
