Description

On the 10th of November 1946 a simple but impressive ceremony was carried out at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, to commemorate the first Remembrance Sunday in honour of those who gave their lives in the wars of 1914-1918 and 1939-1945. Wreaths were laid by representatives of the Commonweath Government, Foreign Diplomatic Missions and organisations of Ex-Service Men and Womens' Organisations and other public bodies. The Catafalque Party was provided by the Corps of Staff Cadets who were posted one at each corner of the Stone of Remembrance, throughout the ceremony and the Band of the 2nd Australian Infantry Training Battalion assisted with appropriate music.
