Troops of the 5th Battalion, RAR, moved in at night to surround a Viet Cong dominated village. The troops tied themselves together with ropes to avoid losing contact during the night manoeuvres. At first light next morning the troops entered the village of Duc My, after brief clashes with the Viet Cong who tried to escape the cordon. A wounded Viet Cong fled into a tunnel. Sapper B Harford had the task of bringing him out. The prisoner was searched then given medical treatment. Meanwhile other troops had been rounding up Viet Cong suspects and medical treatment given to villagers. Identified personnel: Sapper (Spr) Barry Harford of Broken Hill, Private (Pte) Graham Warburton of Warrnambol, VIC, Pte David Gray of Lock, SA, Lieutenant (Lt) Dennis Rayner of Armadale, WA, Corporal (Cpl) Hylton Frugtniet, Captain (Capt) Tony White of Sydney and Capt John Taske of Brisbane.
