MAPRIK, NEW GUINEA, 1945. ONE OF A SERIES OF PHOTOGRAPHS PRODUCED IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, CANBERRA, ACT, ON 1 JUNE 1945 BY THE RT HON A W FADDEN, LEADER OF THE AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY PARTY IN THE HOUSE, TO ILLUSTRATE THE EXTENT THAT THE AUSTRALIAN ARMY IS HAMPERED IN ITS OPERATIONS BY LACK OF EQUIPMENT. THE PHOTOGRAPH ILLUSTRATES THE AMOUNT OF LABOUR WHICH HAS TO BE USED AND THE DIFFICULTIES ENCOUNTERED DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE HAYFIELD AIRSTRIP. (SEE COMMONWEALTH HANSARD, PAGES 2446 AND 2475).
