Description
Outdoor portrait of an AIF signalling instructor. "Sgt Thomas D.C.M our signalling instructor. He was one of the best story tellers I have ever heard and his facial expressions were wonderful. We spent many a pleasant hour round the fire in the YM [YMCA] hut in winter when we ought properly to have been having a lecture. A strong character and attractive personality but a bad egg." From the collection of 38721 Gunner (Gnr) Harold William Charlton, 3rd Divisional Ammunition Column, who embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 19 December 1917 and returned to Australia in 1919.
