Military Observers from United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation (UNTSO) view a memorial near the former UN Patrol Base site at Khiam in Southern Lebanon. This Memorial commemorates the four UN Military Obervers killed when the Patrol Base was destroyed by an Israeli bomb during the 2006 war between Israel and Lebanese forces in the Southern Lebanon, killing four UN military observers. From left to right: Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Meachan (Australian, Commander of Observer Group Lebanon), Major General (Maj Gen) Ian Gordon (Australia, Head of Mission UNTSO) unidentified member of Observer Group Lebanon, UNTSO. This is one of a series of photographs relating to Maj Gen Ian Gordon AO who retired from the Australian Army in 2009. Maj-Gen Gordon had a long and distinguished career culminating as Deputy Chief of Army (2004-2006) and Head of Mission (Chief of Staff) of UNTSO (2006-2008).
