Head and shouldier portrait of Clem Steele smoking a pipe. There is only one Clement Steele listed as having served during the First World War, service number 2431. He served with the Camel Corps from May 1916 - and, then he served with the Reinforcements (May 1916 - November 1917). He embarked on RMS 'Morea' on 17 February 1917.
Frederick enlisted 5 January 1918 in Sydney, New South Wales. He was posted to the Field Company Engineers, 1st Draft Reinforcements, as a surveyor and draftsman. Bolton embarked from Sydney to London on HMAT 'Runic' on 22 March 1918 and arrived London 24 May 1918. This sketchbook documents his brief service of four months.
