Cousins, James George Gordon (Corporal, b.1905 - d.1948)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of 38434 Corporal James George Gordon Cousins, 46 Operational Base Unit RAAF, 1944-1945.
Collection consists of 14 letters written from Corporal Cousins to his daughter Shirley, spanning the period 28 August 1944 to 22 January 1945. The letters discuss affairs at home in Australia, with very little mention of the war. He mentions the local (New Guinea) boys who were impressed by his baking abilities, and includes a phrase list in the Motu language. He asks Shirley to help her mother with housework, comments about her schooling, and about other members of the family.
Also included is Shirley's membership card for the "Follow Montgomery" pledge, pledging abstinence "from all intoxicating liquors as beverages", as issued by the Allied Temperance Forces.
