History / Summary
Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Ernest Edward Stolz was employed as a clerk when he enlisted in the AIF on 16 September 1914, at the age of 21. After training at Seymour, Victoria, Stolz was assigned as a private (service number 1091) to B section of the 4th Field Ambulance. He served with his unit on Gallipoli before transferring to service on the Western Front in 1916.
In October 1917 he was awarded the Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations East of Ypres, Belgium. Stolz returned to Australia via Italy on Anzac Leave on 8 October 1918. He sailed from Taranto on the troopship Berrima. Stolz was discharged on 31 January 1919.
