Oliver, Alfred Charles Henry (Warrant Officer, b.1919 - d.1991)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of 414159 Warrant Officer Alfred Charles Henry Oliver, No. 466 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force.
Collection consists of one Caterpillar Club membership certificate of Warrant Officer Oliver in plastic wallet. It includes photograph of Warrant Officer Oliver.
Warrant Officer Oliver served as a rear gunner in a Halifax III aircraft. During an attack on Berlin, Germany, on 13 February 1944, the aircraft was damaged. However, Warrant Officer Oliver and all other members of his crew successfully bailed out and parachuted to the ground. Shortly after, he and other crewmembers were captured by the Germans as Prisoners of War, and were interned in camps until April 1945. As a person who had successfully used a parachute to bail out of a damaged aircraft, Warrant Officer Oliver was offered membership to the Caterpillar Club.
