Collection relating to the United Nations Mission of Support to East Timor service of Private (later Major) Roneel Chandra, 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (6 RAR), Timor-Leste, 2003-2004.

Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a plastic covered card of essential phrases, translated from English into Tetum, that Chandra used during his deployment to Timor-Leste on Operation Citadel from November 2003 to June 2004.

History / Summary

Roneel Chandra was a nursing student at the University of Wollongong when he enlisted in the Australian Army Reserve and was posted to B Company, 4th/3rd Battalion, Royal New South Wales Regiment as a rifleman in 2000. He completed his nursing degree in 2001 and transferred to the Regular Army as an infantry rifleman in A Company, 6 RAR in Brisbane. The battalion deployed to Timor-Leste in November 2003 for a seven-month tour as part of Operational Citadel, the Australian Defence Force's contribution to maintaining peace and stability in Timor.

Chandra returned to Australia in June 2004 and, in 2005, transferred to the Australian Army Medical Corps and was commissioned as a nursing officer. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2008 and Iraq in 2016, and attained the rank of major. He transferred to the Royal Australian Navy as a lieutenant commander in 2018.
