Collection relating to 81 Staff Sergeant Major William Hopkins 'Hop' James 1st Light Horse Regiment
Description
181 Private (Pte) Timothy William McCristal, 1st Light Horse Regiment, resting and reading the Truth newspaper. He has decorated his dugout with personal photographs placed on an easel. Pte McCristal was wounded during the attack on a Turkish position on 7 August 1915 and was invalided back to Australia. He then served briefly as a recruitment sergeant, due to his background as a leader and speaker in the trade union movement, before becoming active in the anti-conscription movement. One of a series of photographs from an album relating to the service of Lieutenant William Hopkin 'Hop' James, 1st Light Horse Regiment.
