Description
Informal group portrait of four soldiers of the 1st Light Horse Regiment eating a midday meal at their dugout, nicknamed 'The Old Bell'. Identified, first from left, is 181 Private (Pte) Timothy William McCristal who was wounded during the attack on a Turkish position on 7 August 1915 and invalided back to Australia. The three remaining soldiers are unidentified but the handwritten caption accompanying the photograph notes "All since wounded". One of a series of photographs from an album relating to the service of Lieutenant William Hopkin 'Hop' James, 1st Light Horse Regiment.
