Shackleton, Ross (Lieutenant, b.?)
Collection relating to the Operation Slipper service of M811340 Lieutenant Ross Shackleton, Afghanistan, 2013.
Wallet 1 of 1 consists of a scrapbook relating to 'Diana' the toy Camel, a stuffed animal Shackleton purchased while on deployment in Afghanistan. Shackleton sent the stuffed animal to John Brotchie Nursery School, where his wife Tiffany taught, and which his son Alexander attended. Each child at the school had the chance to take Diana home with them for a weekend, and shared their experiences with her in this scrapbook, which contains photographs and captions of the children taking Diana to various weekend activities. Both Diana and the scrapbook were used by Tiffany and her children to maintain a connection to Lieutenant Shackelton while he was on deployment. Additionally, Diana proved to be a useful educational tool at the school to introduce the students to the culture of Afghanistan.
