Leather pouch for a German army 'Fuss Artillerie' compass. The pouch is of thin brown leather, open on one side, and shaped like a bowl or cup, and seems to have been designed to protect the compass when mounted on a tripod or on the gun. The pouch is impressed with the number '4162', which is also inscribed onto the compass. This is probably the gun number. The compass and its case is RELAWM08221.

History / Summary

This pouch was found with its associated artillery compasss and telescope from a German gun by Mr Lloyd, 14th Mg Coy AIF on top of a haystack in a barn about 700 yards from a German hospital near Chuignolles just before the armistice, 1918.

This item would have probably have protected the compass when it was tripod mounted or mounted on the gun.
