Dear Bob,
Just a few lines to you hoping you are all well. These few lines does not leave us in good sprirts here. We are all broken hearted. We have lost our dear Boy Fred. He has died of wounds in France on the 7th of August. Fred has done his duty for King & Country. He heard the Call and [accepted]. Gone from sight but not forgotten. Fred was dear to us all. I only wish this letter was going to Fred instead of you but not in the same wording. We do not sorrow as those who have no hope but look forward to the time of re'union, when We shall all meet in the kingdom of Heaven.
I remain your affectionate brother, Fred.
