Portrait of 2228 Private (Pte) Charles Victor Southwell of Queanbeyan, NSW. Pte Southwell served in the 6th Light Horse Regiment and Second Light Horse Double Squadron during 1915 and 1916 and is pictured wearing the distinctive wallaby fur puggaree of the 6th Light Horse Regiment AIF. He was repatriated to Australia after contracting rheumatic fever, and discharged as medically unfit on 24 October 1916. He re-enlisted in 1918 and served in France as a Driver (59822) with 3rd Division Ammunition Column. Southwell later enlisted as a Private (N278004) in the Second World War and served with the 13th Garrison Battalion on Bribie Island.
