Description

US Army serviceman Stephen Kottman on pit guard duty at the front wire of 104 Signal Squadron’s lines. One of 477 colour 35mm transparencies taken or collected by 2784336 Signalman (Sig) Stuart Lindsay Weller, 104 Signal Squadron, relating to his service in Vietnam between 1967 and 1968. Sig Weller recalls: "There was an arrangement that said the American units within 104’s lines would also pull some night guard duties and they shared Pit 2 with us. Though I didn’t see it, there was a story doing the rounds that the Americans weren’t taking their guard duty seriously and one fellow had been seen taking a hammock down to the pit to 'help' him do his guard duty."
