Collection relating to the Second World War service of 426592 Flying Officer John Bernard Heness, Nos. 20 and 42 Catalina Squadrons, 3 Operational Training Unit, and 111 Air-Sea Rescue Flight, Australia and New Guinea, 1942-1946.

The collection consists of:

Wallet 1, Folder 1:
- 1 x Southwest Pacific Area Air Travel Authority from Madang to Brisbane for the date 14/6/45;
- 1 x Customs Declaration tag;
- 1 x Interim Certificate of Service with accompanying letter;
- 1 x document titled Trade Test Report;
- 1 x Statuatory Declaration, dated 12 June 1945, relating to lost items of clothing;
- 1 x RAAF No.111 Air Sea Rescue Flight Movement Order;
- 1 x typed document titled U.S.S. Tangier (AV8) Morning Orders, Friday 17 November 1944;
- 1 x carbon copy of typed document marked 'Secret' and titled 'Permanent radio aids to navigation and air-ground facilities at Subic Bay area';
- 1 x carbon copy of typed document marked 'Secret' and titled 'Permanent radio aids to navigation and air-ground facilities at Luzon Island';
- 1 x typed document titled 'Personnel Occurence Report (Airmen), Part 'B'; and
- 1 x black and white photograph of an unidentified man in uniform, with caption on verso reading '"Old skinhead" - USA mining expert - connected with Australian Catalina mine laying squadron. Flew with "Cuthbertson's Cripples"' (found in Heness' Flying Log Book)

- 1 x notebook containing handwritten training notes;
- 2 x Pay Books; and
- 1 x Observer’s, Air Gunner’s, and W/T Operators Flying Log Book, with entries relating to flying with Nos. 20 and 42 Catalina Squadrons, 3 Operational Training Unit, and 111 Air-Sea Rescue Flight.

- 1 x Aircraft W/T Operators Handbook, with loose pages of handwritten notes.
