Description

Uniformed members of 104 Signal Squadron assemble outside the Ansett-ANA terminal at Brisbane Airport before embarking on a Defence charter flight for Vietnam. The men are wearing slouch hats and have their embarkation kitbags at their feet. Smiling for the camera, in the front row, second from right, is 2784771 Signalman Stanley Maxwell Hall. One of 477 colour 35mm transparencies taken or collected by 2784336 Signalman (Sig) Stuart Lindsay Weller, 104 Signal Squadron, relating to his service in Vietnam between 1967 and 1968. About their luggage, Sig Weller recalls: "Each of us had a large green bag with our clothes in it already aboard the aircraft. We would see it again the next day, strapped to the floor of the Hercules aircraft. Each of us had a small brown carry bag you can see here and I’m guessing it probably contained a book, toiletries, writing paper and a change of underwear, as we were to overnight in Darwin." Sig Weller's green kit bag is in the AWM collection under accession number REL38733.
