Description
A section of the large crowd in King George's Square, in front of the City Hall, assembled to watch the Victory March through the city streets. Following the dropping of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Monday the 13th of August was declared a public holiday for Queensland by the Acting Premier, Mr Hanlon. A march in anticipation of peace was organised, open to anyone who had ever worn a service uniform of any description. It was estimated that 75,000 spectators lined the route. There was some chaos, with a policeman being quoted in the following day's newspaper as saying "I hate to think whats going to happen when peace is officially declared".
