MOROTAI. 1945-09-11. GENERAL SIR THOMAS A. BLAMEY, COMMANDER IN CHIEF, ALLIED LAND FORCES, SOUTH WEST PACIFIC AREA, ACCEPTED THE SURRENDER OF 2 JAPANESE ARMY FROM ITS COMMANDER, LIEUTENANT GENERAL F. TESHIMA IN A SPECIAL SURRENDER CEREMONY HELD AT 1ST AUSTRALIAN CORPS SPORTS GROUND. AFTER THE CEREMONY THE ACCOMPANYING JAPANESE ENVOYS RETURNED TO 2 JAPANESE ARMY AT PIMRANG CELEBES TO PUT THE SURRENDER INTO EFFECT. TWO JAPANESE PLANES ARRIVED AT PITOE AIRSTRIP TO TAKE THE ENVOYS. SHOWN, JAPANESE CREW WORKING ON THEIR PLANE WHICH WOULD NOT START. IT TOOK TWENTY MINUTES TO GET IT STARTED FOR THE RETURN JOURNEY.
