Braendlin Albini Socket Bayonet and Scabbard
Description
Braendlin Albini Socket Bayonet and Scabbard. The polished triangular blade is fullered on all three sides and has a barrel socket that has a zig-zag slot and locking ring. It is blued and stamped 1017. The blackened leather scabbard with a brass chape and locket has a tear drop frog stud numbered 1002 on the front edge. A white buff leather frog, marked on the back 7/V/AGA 56 and 24, is fitted to the scabbard.
History / Summary
This bayonet is similar to the Martini-Henry socket bayonet but has a muzzle ring diameter of 20.5 mm. The numbers on the socket and scabbard indicate that it was issued to the South Australian forces.
