Description
Manuscript titled 'Dark evening'. Account of fighting by 2/19, 2/29 and 2/30 Battalions on Malayan Peninsula between Bakri and Parit Sulong; also convoy work and evacuation of wounded by 2/3 Reserve Motor Transport Company. Bulk of manuscript covers Hackney's experiences following capture by Japanese, the ill treatment of wounded and massacre at Parit Sulong, his escape and life with local Malays and later imprisonment via Pudu and Changi.
