Description

British Pattern 1892 Infantry Officer's sword and scabbard. The hilt has a brass half basket 'gothic' style guard having a crown VR cartouche badge and a checkered back strap with a wire bound fishskin grip. The front of the guard is stamped NSWG 124 and 2/96 St/63 on the inside. The straight blade has a single fuller to each side to within 10.5 inches of the spear point. It is etched on the left with a makers panel ROBt MOLE & SON MAKERS Birmingham over two Birmingham inspector's marks and MOLE 8/92 on the ricasso. The right side ricasso is stamped with an arrow over WD an inspectors mark and X. The nickel plated steel scabbard has two fixed strap rings at 2.5 and 11 inches from the throat which is stamped NSWG over 151.

The markings on this sword indicate that it became the property of the New South Wales Government in February 1896.
