British Pattern 1822 Artillery Officers Sword and Scabbard
Description
Pattern 1822 Artillery Officers Sword and Scabbard. Steel three bar hilt and back strap with a wire bound fishskin grip. The slightly curved blade has a single fuller to each side to within eleven inches of the spear point. It is etched with a foliage design on both sides with a winged lightening bolt over ARTILLERY on the centre right and the royal coat of arms over VR over a field gun on the centre left. The ricasso has a brass disc stamped APPROVED on the right side. The scabbard is sheet steel with two loose rings located at two inches and ten inches respectively from the throat. The original nickel plating on the scabbard is nearly all worn off and the reverse is damaged with cut marks in the form of two N's.
