Description

Imperial German Artillery Officer's sword and scabbard. The hilt has a stirrup type nickel plated guard with langets and a curved backstrap. Attached to the guard is a brown leather sword knot with a green (faded to gold) tassel. The grip is black plastic over wood. The blade is etched for two thirds of the length on both sides with a floral design and on the right side in a centre panel is 3.Ober-Gls.Feldart.Reg.No80. The ricasso is stamped with a squirrel trade mark over CE. The black painted scabbard has a fixed belt ring attached to a band 80 mm from the throat and a drag shoe on the chape.

History / Summary

This sword would have been presented to an officer of the 3rd Ober-Elsassisches 80th Field Artillery Regiment formed at Colmar/Neubreisach in 1912 which was part of the XV Armee Korps.
