ST EVAL, CORNWALL, ENGLAND. 1943-10. A LIBERATOR BOMBER AIRCRAFT OF NO. 53 SQUADRON RAF COASTAL COMMAND NEWLY FITTED WITH A LEIGH LIGHT. THIS IS A TWO MILLION CANDLEPOWER SEARCHLIGHT, USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH AIR-TO-SURFACE VESSEL (AIRBORNE RADAR SEARCH DEVICE) EQUIPMENT WHICH COULD BE SWITCHED ON AT A RANGE OF ABOUT ONE MILE TO ILLUMINATE A TARGET. THE DEVICE WAS DEVELOPED BY SQUADRON LEADER H. DE V. LEIGH RAF.
