Studio portrait of 22288 Sapper William James Rodan, 3rd Field Company Engineers of Hawthorn, Vic. An engineer prior to his enlistment on 23 June 1917 he embarked (after attending Engineering Officers' Training School at Roseville, NSW) from Sydney, on 21 March on board HMAT Persic. At the end of the war he was granted a leave of absemnce to study engineering at Leeds University. He returned to Australia on 22 November 1919.
