Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX20967 Gunner Shaw Brown, 2/5 Field Regiment, Buna, 1942.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a diary, covering the period November to December 1942. Brown describes the coastal voyage to Buna and attacks by Japanese dive bombers. At Buna, he describes gun enplacement and concealment, felling trees to improve field of fire, snipers, both Japanese and Australian air, artillery and infantry attacks. Includes comments on American and Australian morale, and stench of bodies on the battlefield. Includes several poems at the end of the diary. The wallet also contains a transcript of the diary.
