The Australian naval vessel, Jeparit, as it unloads supplies for its troops in the Republic of Vietnam (The Free World Forces - 1. The Australians)
A United States Army Photographic Agency film. From a very high angle panning the cargo ship HMAS Jeparit. The mission of the Jeparit is to supply the Australian forces in South Vietnam. She is commanded by Commander Nigel Kinsey, who docked her at Vung Tau, 23 July 1970. Bow of the Jeparit. Australian flag at bow. Close-up to Long-shot and pan up of stern ropes up to the stern. This is one of the many shots that will depict the massiveness of the Jeparit. Artistic framing of knot in foreground of framming and showing the bow from a high angle overlooking it as the Commander would see it. Same shot only as the basis shot and not trying for effect. Close-up hook of crane. Crane hole displaying supplies. This particular hole contains pipes to use in Civil Aid for plumbing in the city of Can Tho, RVN in connection with the SEATO Treaty. Inside crane and downward pan. Long-shot to Medium-shot reverse of crane. Long-shot of workers attaching crane hitch to crates of beer for troops. Close-up of ship's bell to a Long-shot using bell as foreground framing. Medium-shot of lifepreserver of the ship Jeparit. Long-shot of works on their plane showing them preparing for the crane to pull of the cargo. Close-up of hands and faces provide for goods cuts and Medium-shot to work as Cut-ins. Ground level inside hole pan to outside of ship as crane pulls my camera and I from the hole. A Tilt to show the foreman directing the crane proves most effective. Australian checking cargo after it has been put on shipping truck. Long-shot low angle of cargo being dropped by crane. Close-up gives an idea of how men continue to work with the crane operator so he can find the exact placing of the load. Close-up of boxes displaying the markings of Australian and Vietnam origins and destinations. Close-ups are used to capture various Australians as they guard and supervise the Vienamese. Close-up of the name of the Jeparit painted on the stern. [adapted from cameraman's dope sheet]
