Description
Diary kept by Oluf Moen during the Japanese invasion of New Guinea. Moen was a civilian employed by Sunshine Gold Development Ltd to supervise the installation of hydraulic dredges. Moen's wife Violet was evacuated to Australia in December 1941. The diary covers the period 23/1/42 to 23/2/42 and describes the Japanese bombing the area, being under military administration, and being evacuated to Australia. The diary also contains some sketches of where gold was 'planted' before evacuation and a possible escape route to Port Moresby. Oluf Moen died on 30 November 1942.
