Description

Westley Richards (monkey tail) Carbine. Percussion lock marked WESLEY RICHARDS & Co and 1874 within a triangle. Barrel marked .483, Whitworth Patent and 12809. It is complete with sling swivels and original cleaning rod.

History / Summary

The Westley Richards Carbine was issued to the Victorian Volunteers and are marked VV, and South Australia had 84 carbines in 1866. This example appears not to have been issued in to any of the Australian colonies and has possibly been imported from the United Kingdom.
