Description

The muzzle end of a 60 pdr B L gun which was blown off due to a premature shell ignition caused by a defective fuze. The metal has been split longitudinally and shows all the damage caused by a catastrophic internal explosion. The barrel has some olive green paint on its external surface. The internal structure of the barrel is visible with the barrel lands and grooves peeled back where the shell exploded exposing bare metal. The barrel is made from ordnance steel.
