Description
VX501799 (VX9453) Sergeant John Henry Daniel of Holbrook, NSW (2nd from left in background), carried this wounded native boy (on stretcher) to a safe place while under fire from enemy snipers. He had been awarded a Military Medal for actions at Nassau Bay in June 1943 and for courage and initiative at Maprik he was awarded a Distinguished Conduct Medal. Also shown, left to right are Lieutenant N. E. White of Prospect Gardens, SA; Private G. Williams, Royal Australian Artillery (Orderly) of Mount Gambier, SA; and Corporal A. L. Wood of Grenfell, NSW.
