Young, Bernard Leone (Sapper, b.1914 - d.?)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of QX13417 Sapper Bernard Leone Young, 2/11 Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers, Indonesia and Australia, 1940-1945.
Folder 1 contains: one document dated 26 November 1942 stating that Spr Young agreed under duress to not escape from the Japanese POW camp; one letter written to 'Mum, Dad and all' discussing Spr Young's immediate prospects regarding the POW camp, some of his experiences, and his well-wishes to his family; one telegram dated 22 September 1945 sent to Private Young's mother, Mrs A W Young, following his liberation from a prisoner of war camp in Thailand; three Imperial Japanese Army POW cards from Spr Young to his mother Mrs A W Young sent from Nos.1 and 4 POW Camps Thailand (one undated, one dated 1944 and the last dated 1945); fifteen letters written to Mrs A W Young following a message broadcast by Spr Young over Japanese radio that was broadcast to Australia; and one typed letter from the Australian Prisoner's of War Relatives Association with a transcript of Spr Young's radio message.
Folder 2 contains: one 'green service identity book' for 'recovered Allied prisoners of war and civilian internees service'; one record of service book; and one demobilization procedure book.
