Snider-Enfield Artillery Mk IV Carbine : New South Wales Public School Cadet Corps
Description
Snider-Enfield Artillery Carbine Mk IV. Lock marked Crown over VR and 1860 over ENFIELD and has a Mk III breech. The bayonet boss is on the front band and numbered 539. The butt is marked NSW 364 PSCC and the double arrow sale mark. It is complete with all parts including a white buff leather sling.
History / Summary
These carbines were a conversion from the Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle and the stocks were cut down to about an inch from the muzzle. Some were used by the New South Wales Artillery but the majority, like this example, were issued to the New South Wales Public School Cadet Corps.
