Collection relating to the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda II (UNAMIR II) service of 556272 Corporal (later Warrant Officer Class Two) Justin Peter White, Australian Service Contingent 2, Rwanda, 1995.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of documents, certificates and ephemera related to White's deployment as a radio and communication centre operator with the Australian Communication and Information Systems Troop under UNAMIR II from February to August 1995. The collection includes White's United Nations identity card and driver's permit, a certificate given to White's daughter for assisting mum during dad's absence, a certificate for White's award of the United Nations Medal for UNAMIR, and two drawings of mountain gorillas [made by local children and available to purchase by peacekeepers visiting the gorillas in the northwest of Rwanda]. The collection also includes a 2-page description of a violent car jacking incident by the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA), and White's field message notebook in which he recorded briefing notes, reminders, contacts, activities, and tasks during his deployment.
